After the first day of the WVSSAC Golf Championship at the Jones Course at Oglebay, Cabell Midland leads the Class AAA with a team score of +15 (228). Shady Spring sits atop the Class AA with +26 (239), and St. Marys holds the lead in the Class A with +40 (253).
In the AAA class, Hurricane is in second place at +28 (241), followed by University in third with +32 (245).
Individually, Jack Michael from Cabell Midland leads the AAA field with a score of +2 (73). Stephen McDavid from Winfield and Tommy Evans from Washington are tied for second at +5 (76), with Josh Gooden (77, Hurricane), Wyatt Maynard (77, Cabell Midland), and Alex White (78, Cabell Midland) all posted strong first day scores.
In the AA class, Wheeling Central is in second place with a team score of +39 (252), followed by Chapmanville at +50 (263). Individually, Luke Tiu from Wheeling Central and Cooper Ward from Shady Spring share the lead at +4 (75), while Tyler Beard (Shady Spring) at +9 (80) and Bryson Moorehead (Frankfort) at +10 (81) remain in the mix.
In the A class, Gilmer County trails St. Marys by just one shot, sitting in second place with a score of +41 (254), followed by Wahama at +50 (263) and Charleston Catholic at +52 (265). On the individual leaderboard, Grant Roush (Wahama), Will Gruse (Charleston Catholic), and Rocky Frye (Montcalm) are tied for the lead with scores of +8 (79). Seth Stewart (Gilmer County) and Trent Renner (St. Marys) are just one shot behind at +9 (80), with Jordan Teets (East Hardy) is in sixth with with a score of +11 (82).
