Updated: The Health Plan Champions Cup standings (5/13)

The WVSSAC has announced the updated standings for The Health Plan Champions Cup, recognizing the top-performing high schools across the state for combined athletic and academic excellence, following the conclusion of the winter sports championships. (Full standings)
The Health Plan Champions Cup honors the leading boys’ and girls’ athletic programs in each of the WVSSAC’s four classifications. Standings are based on performances across a variety of sports, with points awarded for success in state championship events. Teams are also awarded points based on the previous year’s graduation rate.
MMorgantown leads both the Class AAAA girls and boys standings after winter championships. The Mohigans girls front the field with 686 points, highlighted by the volleyball state championship and a runner-up finish in cross country, with semifinal appearances in soccer and basketball contributing to a six-sport total. Parkersburg sits second with 576 points, followed by Cabell Midland (489), Parkersburg South (477) and Washington (469) in a competitive chase heading into spring.
The Mohigans boys lead at 683 points, bringing home the football state title and finishing runner-up in cross country while reaching the semifinals in soccer and basketball. University is second with 585 points and George Washington third with 583, with Wheeling Park (478) and Huntington (472.5) also in contention.
Bridgeport leads both the Class AAA girls and boys standings. The Indians girls front the field with 588 points, highlighted by the cross country state championship and a runner-up finish in cheerleading, with five sports contributing to their total. Herbert Hoover sits second with 486.5 points and John Marshall third with 480, with Greenbrier East (388.5), Fairmont Senior (385) and Shady Spring (383).
The Indians boys have accumulated 781 points, claiming the soccer state championship and finishing runner-up in both cross country and swimming while scoring across seven sports. John Marshall is second with 483 points and Robert C. Byrd third with 481.5, with Chapmanville Regional (392), Grafton (390.5) and Princeton (388.5) among the contenders.
Lincoln leads the Class AA girls standings with 491.5 points, highlighted by the cheerleading state championship and a runner-up finish in soccer. James Monroe is second with 393 points, followed by Braxton County (295), Doddridge County (289) and Williamstown (289).
Frankfort tops the Class AA boys with 585 points, bringing home the football state title and placing in the top three in cross country. Doddridge County sits second with 490 points, followed by Williamstown (383.5), with Midland Trail (292.5) and Oak Glen (292) further back.
Wheeling Central leads both the Class A girls and boys standings. The girls front the field with 686 points, claiming the soccer state championship and reaching the semifinals in both volleyball and basketball while scoring across six sports. Charleston Catholic is second with 578.5 points and St. Marys third with 397.5, followed by Gilmer County (298) and Tug Valley (295.5).
The Maroon Knights also top the Class A boys standings with 691 points, highlighted by state championships in football and basketball and runner-up finishes in soccer and wrestling. Charleston Catholic (395), St. Marys (390), and St. Joseph’s Central (387) follow in a tight race for second.
The final champions will be named at the conclusion of the spring championships.
