University, Elkins and St. Marys claim boys cross country championships

University, Elkins and St. Marys earned team titles at the 2024 WVSSAC Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning on the campus of Cabell Midland in Ona, W.Va.

AAA Boys Recap:
University High School claimed the AAA boys’ team title with an impressive score of 42 points. Key contributors for University included top-10 finishes from Ethan Conroy (5th) and Micah Gainer (6th). with Logan Conroy (15th), and Colin Schrull (23rd) rounding out the scorers to secure a sixth-straight state title.

Cabell Midland finished as the runner-up with 80 points, followed by Jefferson in third with 86, Morgantown in fourth with 108, and Wheeling Park rounding out the top five with 121.

Individually, Ty Steorts of Hurricane won his third-straight individual title with a time of 15:11.48. Aidan Kneeland from Cabell Midland followed in second place at 15:36.20, while Tyler Umbright from University took third with 15:55.41. The race saw competitive finishes, with close calls such as Conner Myers of Jefferson narrowly beating Ethan Conroy of University for the fourth spot.

AA Boys Recap
Elkins captured the AA boys’ team title with a score of 39 points. The Tigers had four runners in the top 10 with Trevor George (1st), Benjamin Tenney (3rd), Frank Conner (7th), Gavin Brown (9th), and Treven Schaefer finished 29th to round out the scoring. Frankfort took the runner-up position with 60 points, followed by Grafton in third with 79 points, Williamstown in fourth with 88 points, and Shady Spring in fifth with 121 points.

George took the individual title with a time of 16:09.86. Ryan Hughes from Frankfort followed in second place with a time of 16:24.30, and Tenney finished third with a time of 16:33.20 and Bodkins was fourth with a time of 16:35.52. . Williamstown placed three runners in the top 10, and Grafton had a pair of top 10 finishers.

A Boys Recap
St. Marys claimed the A boys’ team title with a score of 61 points. St. Marys scorers included Bryce Bills (3rd), Reece Westfall (12th), Max Dauch (13th), Parker Barnes (16th), and Jay Mote (31st), who combined to deliver the team’s first title since 2017. Charleston Catholic followed closely in second place with 67 points, with Doddridge County taking third with 100, Magnolia in fourth with 119, and Tyler Consolidated rounding out the top five with 123 points.

Individually, Amos Kimble of Tyler Consolidated captured the title with a time of 16:09.63. Donovan Tanouye from Paw Paw finished in second at 16:28.29, while Bryce Bills from St. Marys took third with a time of 16:50.88. The race included some tight finishes, such as Carter Sias from Doddridge County narrowly edging Landen Davis of Magnolia for fifth place.
