Morgantown wins Class AAAA boys and girls The Health Plan Champions Cup for 2025-26

The WVSSAC has announced the Class AAAA winners of The Health Plan Champions Cup, recognizing the top-performing high schools for excellence in both athletics and academics. Morgantown High School finished atop the standings in both the boys and girls competitions.

The Health Plan Champions Cup honors the leading boys’ and girls’ athletic programs in each of the WVSSAC’s four classifications. Standings are based on performances across a variety of sports, with points awarded for success in state championship events. Teams are also awarded points based on the previous year’s graduation rate.

Class AAAA Girls

Morgantown finished with 982 points by recording points in all nine of the sanctioned sports in the academic year. Morgantown’s season was highlighted by state titles in volleyball and softball to go with runner-up finishes in cross country and tennis. The Mohigans took third in swimming and were semifinalists in both basketball and soccer. MHS added a fourth-place finish in track and a fifth-place finish in cheerleading to round out its scoring.

Cabell Midland finished second with 682 points. The Knights were state champions in cross country and were semifinalists in both volleyball and tennis.

University was next with 673 points after a runner-up finish in softball and a third-place finish in cross country. The Hawks finished just in front of Parkersburg’s total of 670 points. The season for the Big Reds was highlighted by a state title in basketball. Washington rounded out the top five with 660 points.

Class AAAA Boys

Morgantown High also finished first on the boys side with a total of 982 points. The Mohigans captured state titles in football and track, and posted runner-up finishes in both cross country and baseball. MHS finished third in swimming and was a semifinalist in three other sports: soccer, basketball, and tennis.

George Washington finished in second with 783 points. The Patriots managed more state titles than any other school in Class AAAA taking home championships in swimming, basketball, tennis, and baseball.

University was third with 780.5 points on the strength of titles in both cross country and wrestling, a third-place finish in track, and a pair of semifinal appearances in football and tennis. Huntington was fourth (666 points), followed by Hurricane (585), Cabell Midland (579.5), and Parkersburg (578).
