Football Class A: Wahama secures title with 29-22 win over Cameron

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Wahama captured the WVSSAC Class A Football Championship with a 29-22 victory over Cameron at Laidley Field in Charleston on Saturday. The White Falcons capped an undefeated season, finishing 14-0, while Cameron concluded their season at 12-2.

Wahama’s offensive efforts were led by running back Trace Simpkins, who rushed for 125 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries, and Connor Lambert, who contributed 114 yards and two touchdowns on 18 attempts. On defense, Jake Roberts and Reezin Stitt tied with a team-high nine tackles each. Roberts also forced a fumble, while Ricky Jordan added an interception, returning it 17 yards.

Cameron’s Kason Angel showcased a dual-threat performance, passing for 114 yards and two touchdowns while adding 64 rushing yards on 10 carries. Mason Scott and Wes Starcher each caught touchdown passes, with Scott totaling 55 receiving yards. Defensively, Klypsan Wallace and Talen Brown led the Dragons with nine tackles each, while Colin Magers recorded a tackle for loss.

The game opened with a 36-yard touchdown run by Simpkins, giving Wahama an early lead. Cameron answered with Angel’s 14-yard touchdown pass to Starcher and a successful two-point conversion. Angel’s one-yard rushing touchdown in the second quarter gave Cameron a 14-7 edge, but Wahama tied it before halftime with a two-yard scoring run by Wyatt Harris.

Wahama pulled away in the third quarter with two touchdowns from Lambert, a one-yard run followed by a five-yard rush, extending their lead to 29-14. Cameron’s final effort came in the fourth quarter with a 22-yard touchdown pass from Angel to Scott, narrowing the gap, but Wahama’s defense held strong to secure the championship.
