2024 Game Day Cheer Invitational

Championship Information

Date: Saturday, October 5, 2024

Championship Schedule:
10 a.m. — A/AA Competition
1:30 p.m. — AAA/AAAA Competition

Championship Format: In the Qualifying Round, teams perform three one-minute routines—Band Chant, Crowd Leading, and Fight Song—each judged separately. Teams are encouraged to use crowd-leading tools like signs, pom-poms, and megaphones, focusing on sideline practicality and leadership. In the Final Round, teams advance based on Qualifying Round scores (which do not carry over) and present a three-minute Game Day routine, including elements from the previous round and a response to a game day scenario. The Band Chant emphasizes crowd appeal, Crowd Leading focuses on fan involvement, and the Fight Song includes motions, stunts, and tumbling.

The Game Day Invitational is hosted by the WVSSAC in conjunction with Varsity. The event is a regional qualifier for the UCA National High School Cheerleading Championship, which will be held on Feb 7-10, 2025, at Walt Disney World. Since the first WV Game Day Invitational in 2020, several teams from West Virginia have qualified for the national competition and several have scored in the top ten in the nation in their respective divisions.
