The Deputy Board
members of the West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission met on
October 11, 2012, to select the winners for the 2011-2012 WVSSAC - State Farm Insurance Academic
Achievement Awards. Sponsoring the WVSSAC-State Farm Insurance Academic Achievement
program is State Farm Insurance.
This statewide recognition program involves two
types of awards to be given to schools and individuals. The member school awards are based
on the computed overall grade point averages for the Team Sport Award, the Individual Team
Sport Award, and the Band Award. The individual awards include:
Male Athlete; Female Athlete; Male Band Student; Female Band Student; and
Community Service at
both high school and junior high/middle school levels. The School Category and Individual
Category Awards are given at the high school and junior high/middle school levels.
The winners will be honored during the pre-game ceremonies of the
Class AAA Championship Football game at Wheeling Island Stadium, Wheeling, WV, on
December 1, 2012. Plaques and banners will be presented. A recognition breakfast will also be held.
The High School Winners are:
School Category
(1) Team Sport Award
- Girls’ Soccer - Wheeling Park High School with an
overall grade point average of 4.0.
(2) Individual Team
Sport Award - Girls’ Cross Country - Wheeling Park High School
with an overall grade point average of 4.00.
(3) Band Award -
Wheeling Park High School with an overall grade point
average of 3.894.

Category
(1) Male Athlete –
Philip Wilson, Notre Dame High School,
Clarksburg, WV.
(2) Female Athlete
– Fredricah Gardnere, Pocahontas County HS, Dunmore,
WV.
(3) Male Band
Student – Robert Sellers, Wheeling Park High School,
