The Deputy Board members of the West
Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission met on September 27, 2001, to select the
winners for the 2000-01 WVSSAC - State Farm Insurance
Academic Achievement Awards. Sponsoring the WVSSAC-State Farm Insurance Academic Achievement program is State Farm Insurance.
This statewide recognition program
involves two types of awards to be given to schools and individuals. The member school
awards are based on the computed overall grade point averages for the Team Sport Award,
the Individual Team Sport Award, the Band Award, and the Cheerleader Award. The individual
awards include: male athlete; female athlete; male band student; female band student; and
cheerleader at both high school and junior high/middle school levels. The School Category
and Individual Category Awards are given at the high school and junior high/middle school
levels.
The winners will be honored during the pregame ceremonies of the
Class AAA Championship Football game at Wheeling Island Stadium, Wheeling, WV, on December
1, 2001. Plaques and banners will be presented. A recognition breakfast will also be held.
The High School Winners are:

(1) Team Sport Award - Softball Team -
Philip Barbour High School with an overall grade point average of 3.925.
(2) Individual Team Sport Award - Girls’
Track - Brooke High School with an overall grade point average of 4.00.
(3) Band Award - Bridgeport High School
with an overall grade point average of 3.885.
(4) Cheerleader Award - Philip Barbour High
School with an overall grade point average of 3.986.
Individual Category
(1) Male Athlete – David Narkevic,

Philip Barbour High School, Philippi, WV. Erica is the daughter of Rebecca and Randy
